SPLUUUUUUUUUURGE

OMG, yesterday was the splurge I've been waiting for.........When I changed my eating habits, I really changed them for good.  There are some things I just really don't eat anymore or not very often.

I haven't had pizza in 15 months if you can believe that.  I've had pasta like twice in the last year.  Ice cream 1x when I was really sick and that's all I wanted to eat.  OK why don't I eat some of these things.....sometimes....and in small portions?  I CAN'T.  If I eat them, I'll eat too much.  Some say that's because I've "deprived" myself of these foods.  Nope, just know me and sometimes it's best to just not start.  Walk away.  (I have to do that sometimes too when I feel I want to speak my mind and it probably doesn't need to happen - back away...).

Back to the splurge.  Yesterday I went to get my haircut and it was Karen's birthday.  I'm so pissed at her cause I didn't know it was her day.  I'll get her.  Anyway there were all kinds of sweets..........all store bought so I said, nah I'll pass.  So she takes me off to the side and shows me THE TIN.  I almost fell out!!!!  Homemade cookies!!!!!!!  Karen's mom baked homemade choco/coconut cookies.  I had one and it was worth every bite.  Worth the wait to have it!  Worth the calories eating it! Worth every morsel!  Just look at these suckers.  There were so yummy and rich, I could really only eat one. That made me so happy.  I had it; loved it and then I was done.

Now that was a great splurge!!! What's your splurge?

Haha, I can't talk........

While that makes so many people happy, it's really a setback when trying to get things done like...... my work, appointments, etc.

The cold turned into an infection and laryngitis.  So I'm here. At home.  Not feeling so grand.  Why do these feelings lead me to CHOCOLATE.  Yep had two choco cookies today.  I loved every minute of eating them but I have to admit, I was sick after.  Not used to that...........

It feels so weird to be sick.  I haven't had a single cold since I began my good health journey.  That's over 14 months and NO cold, NO swine flu, nothing.  I'm lovin that.  I just need to knock this out and get back to it.  Lots to do of which I'm really excited.

Thanks for the get well wishes and Drew for encouraging me to FEED THE COLD!

Hump day........

WooHoo!  I ran with my group last night then worked out with Dan and I'M BACK.  I took the advice of a fellow blogger (thanks Jody @ Truth2BeingFit) - I look for my workout to work it out.

Today is going to be a GREAT day.  I can just feel it.  My am rituals are starting me off strong - coffee, wash clothes and onto the computer.  I got an email "atta boy" on the choco - haha, the simple things!  I checked in on St. Baldrick's  donations and they are climbing!!!!  SWEET!!!!  If you are new to St. Baldrick's, please check it out here or in your city.  It's a wonderful organization raising millions of dollars for childhood cancer research.

I made it through day #1 of no chocolate so I'm psyched. CELEBRATE!  Yesterday I began my challenge of eliminating chocolate (ooooh the photo!).  Not forever; I'm targeting one week to start.

Food cravings - a new goal for me.  I've got to learn more about this.  It's incredibly fascinating.  Anyone got any great resources on this?  I've love to hear @ it.

It's another rainy, dreary day here but that's not stopping me now.  I hope everyone has a great hump day and find something to celebrate!

Cancel Mondays?!

HARO says " Worst Day of the Week is Over."  I heard Bernie Siegel talk yesterday and his recommendation for lowering the suicide rate is cancel Mondays.  Google it!  Studies show that more suicides happen on this day than any other day.

I'm far from suicidal but what a shitty Monday.  Am I supposed to be all positive and chipper when blogging?!  That would be nice but hardly reality.  Today, which started last night just after midnight and continued through lunchtime and was not so great.  I guess what made it really crappy was that it followed a really wonderful, new, exciting and exillerating weekend.  My first IIN class.  I have so much to share @ our first session but that will come another day when I can put it in the perspective that it deserves.

For today, what do YOU do when things are for shit?  I had steak for dinner, a small one and yep, followed by chocolate!!!!!!!  I'M SO BAD.  I learned alot this weekend about cravings and I'm on the case.  I cancelled my trainer tonight which I never do so.....I'm heading to the tub and then to bed.  Tomorrow is another day and I'll be back and ready for it.

Looking forward to a great Tuesday!!!

Rhyme time.......

It all started on a January Saturday,
When I looked in the mirror and said “I’ve had enough of looking this way.”

I knew I had to change my way of eating,
But this time around, I needed to add exercise and no cheating.

So one month later on a February day,
A couple of New Yorkers got in this girls way.

I did lunges & squats, the whole time I kvetched,
Not knowing at the end came the STRETCH.

I learned to push, press, lift and pump
Then one day Dan said, “I’m going to teach you to jump.”

I logged my workouts, kept my food journal every day,
Hoping the scales would be on my side when it was time to weigh.

I continued this for months & months,
Many of them up and others, I was down in the dumps.

But my coach and supporters cheered me all along the way,
So I stuck with it until that splendid August day.

The scales revealed I had reached my 50 lb goal
And now it is up to me to maintain that role.

I couldn’t reach my goal on my own and without the help of many
This prompted my giving back and starting Whatz the Skinny?

Please join me to celebrate my one year of FAT FREE
And thank you for helping me become the new me!

T.G.I.F.

It's been five days since my last post and while I would have liked to stop time or jumped off the world for a few days, I'm still here.  The week has been a blur and I think my daily food choices have in some part been a blur too.  Tomorrow when I have some time, I'll look back over my food journal and see just how I did this week.  I hope I wrote everything down!

One thing I struggled with alot this week was CHOCOLATE.  I could not get enough of it; I craved it constantly.  Anyone have any suggestions for me on this?  I need help.  The dear Tauheedah suggested a sensible swap - vegan choco chips.  I love them and they worked for me on a few days but were often followed by organic choco dipped bananas/apricots (these are awesome-Next Organics) or WW ice cream chasers!!!!  I don't think the scale will change much @ tomorrow's weigh in.

Oh well, *&%$#@ happens, right?!  It does and now I need to learn from this as opposed to letting one week stretch into two.  Thank goodness, I've been exercising a bunch.  I think that has been as much for my mental health as it's been for physical or weight maintenance.

Girls on the run (my co-workers and I) have moved up to 4 miles now.  We tried a trail yesterday, Rottenwood Creek in Cobb County (Atlanta, GA).  It's a beautiful two mile (each way) trail with 1/2 of nothing but hills.  My running coach reminds us constantly, "hills are a girl's best friend."  If you want leg and butt work, take to the hills girls.  Fortunately Rottenwood has @ a mile of fairly flat also.  You can walk, run, bike; great sounds and will be spectacular when things start blooming (hell on allergies for sure).  The girls want to go 6 miles today.............Actually 6 miles may have been thrown out by me.  I'm always up for a new challenge.  What's your new challenge?
